Special Events

Exciting events planned for YOUTH DELEGATES include two days (Dec. 2, 3) of pre-conference activities.

The five-day (Dec. 2-6) youth experience will include:
  • A motivational and interactive session on Sunday about "How to make Social Change Happen" with Canadian environmentalist, activist and lawyer Elizabeth May (author of the recently published book How to Save the World in Your Spare Time)
  • Skill- and team-building exercises with AdventureWorks!
  • A Monday night special screening of the new documentary Tobacco Conspiracy
If you're coming to the main conference (Dec. 4-6), and you will be aged 25 or under as of Dec. 2, 2006, be sure to register for the FREE* youth pre-conference happening Dec. 2, 3. To register for both the youth pre-conference and the main conference, visit www.otcconference.com/registration.html

For questions related to the youth pre-conference, contact Trevor Haché, (613) 230-4211 or youth@otcconference.com. For updates check the youth portion of the conference website regularly.

Please note:
  1. *The free pre-conference includes your accommodations on Saturday and Sunday nights; Saturday's dinner; Sunday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your travel to and from Niagara Falls is not paid for, neither is your registration or accommodations for the main conference.
  2. There are only 60 spots available at the pre-conference. To attend the free pre-conference, you must register and attend the main conference as well.
  3. Registration cancellations received in writing prior to November 6, 2006 will be refunded in full, less a $50 administration fee. Only cancellations received in writing will be processed. After November 6, 2006 no refunds will be issued.
  4. Youth under 18 must attend with a chaperon, who is registered for the conference. A consent form must be signed by all youth under 18 and their legal guardian. See the Youth section of the conference website for the consent form.
  5. If the chaperon (ie. a parent) does not register for the conference, they must be on location at the hotel for the duration of the pre-conference and main conference and available to supervise their youth.
  6. Unfortunately, funds do not exist to pay for accommodations or travel for chaperones. It is hoped that perhaps people committed to the cause of youth involvement and action in tobacco control will be able to cover their costs for the accommodations during the pre-conference. Meals, to be eaten with the youth during the pre-conference, will be paid for.
  7. For adults that have received bursaries for the main conference, perhaps they could use some of that money to pay for their pre-conference accommodations so that they can chaperon.
Thanks goes to The Lung Association's Youth Advocacy Training Institute for sponsoring the pre-conference activities.
